Being SMART About Setting Goals

Staying focused on future goals can be tough at times.

Thinking about where I am now and where I want to be in 5, 10, or 20 years from now can be overwhelming and discouraging at times. There are times when I am overwhelmed by everything I need to do that I cannot think any further in the future than this week. Other times I dream about how far I will be toward my ultimate goal to have the most successful marketing firm in the Florida Panhandle.

Making a plan by setting SMART goals for 1, 5, 10, and 20 years makes reaching my ultimate goal feel more attainable and a lot less overwhelming.

By setting SMART goals, I am confident that I can meet my short-term, mid-term, and long-term goals it helps me stay focused on my future and what I need to do to reach each goal I have set for myself. Sometimes I need to reset goals as life happens and circumstances change. My short-term goal was to graduate in 2023 and land a marketing contract at Hellcat Production. I have added to this goal because I need to get more experience working in digital marketing before working a marketing job at a small business. Working for a small business, I will likely be the only person in the company’s marketing department. Working as an intern for at least two companies before I graduate in June 2023 will give me the experience to feel confident in a marketing position in a small business such as Hellcat Productions.

 Short-Term (2023)

  • Work two separate digital marketing internships before I graduate in June of 2023.

Mid-Term: (2028)

  • Start my own marketing firm in Pensacola, Florida.

Long-Term: (2043)

  • Expand my client base to small businesses and nonprofit organizations in the Florida Panhandle.

How will I meet my mid-term and long-term goals?

To reach my mid-term goals, I need to track the digital marketing results while working for Hellcat Production and showcase my projects and the statistics of how my marketing strategies worked on my professional website and social media platforms. Doing this will help me earn work for small businesses and nonprofit organizations in the Pensacola area. By keeping the website updated by continuing to showcase new projects and client testimonials, I will have the ability to expand my client base to the region I reside. I also will need to continue building my LinkedIn connections and gain a minimum of 25 endorsements on my profile.
