My Content Strategy

As I mentioned in my last post, this month I am learning how to develop strategies, develop content, and distribute content to a target market to meet the marketing goals of a business. My chosen brand for assignments this month is Nina and Pinta Caravels. It’s a small local business that travels from port to port across the country, offering tours to the public on their replica 15th Century ships. This week I will choose the type of content I will create for this business.

I have chosen to create a blog post. Nina and Pinta Caravels have Facebook, Instagram, and a website to promote their business and post the tour schedule, but no blog. I believe a blog is the best way to increase brand awareness and help drive traffic to their site. Creating an interesting, engaging, and educational post will help drive traffic to their site. In time this will increase their profit, which is the ultimate goal.

Creating a blog with visual elements such as photos and videos will allow teachers and parents to teach children about 15th Century history in a fun way that they will remember.

I did some research and learned that in elementary school, the purpose of teaching history is to make the past seem real (Hoge, 1988). When I was in kindergarten and learning about Christopher Columbus, my teacher read us books about Christopher Columbus. At 5 years old, it was just a story. It didn’t seem real.

Now imagine learning about Christopher Columbus by seeing photos and videos of a real-life replica Nina and Pinta ships. They bring history to life, which is the goal!

While there are many types of content I could use for this brand, I believe a blog has the most benefits. Creating a blog will drive traffic to the site, increase brand awareness, and bring history to life. Teachers and parents can use the blog as a tool to teach children about 15th Century history in a fun, unforgettable way that makes it easy to learn.
